"I well remembered the words of my father": Fathers and Fatherhood In Horror

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Mary Shelley made the fathers and the role of fatherhood central to the horror genre. In honor of Father's Day, join us for a wide-ranging exploration of the significance of fathers and paternal figures in horror. How have fathers stood in for the violence and manipulation of patriarchal norms—and what is the potential to overcome those familiar symbols? How do we reckon with the "fathers" of horror and inheritances they have left to us? How does horror enable us to confront assumptions about gender, power, and traditional family dynamics? While our discussion will surely consider the historic role of male parents, this is a panel that welcomes fathers, dads, and role models of all genders.
